Tires provide excellent habitat for mosquitoes, particularly the Asian tiger mosquito, a potential vector of Zika virus. Tires may also provide habitat for a number of other mosquitoes species that may be a nuisance or spread other diseases, such as West Nile virus. In response to this potential hazard the Lancaster County West Nile virus program is conducting a one-day tire collection to promote mosquito habitat removal.
