In 2014 the town of Mountville will be celebrating its 200th Birthday!
The Mountville200 Bicentennial Executive Committee is making plans for this historic, milestone event. Our hope is that every resident, church, business and organization in the Mountville area will be a part of this celebration!
With a variety of events scheduled over the course of the year, there are many ways in which individuals and groups can volunteer. The first celebration is scheduled for January 11th 2014, (the actual anniversary date of the town’s founding) and will be a community-wide “kickoff” event to mark a year of the 200th birthday festivities. This event will introduce the events for the year and include a Bicentennial Birthday Dinner!
Later in the year, a community family picnic with an old-fashioned carnival and kids' games is planned. A celebratory parade, fireworks display and a community dance and swim are some of the events scheduled for the summer months. Also, the Committee is creating a Mountville200 commemorative anniversary book and DVD to commemorate this special year of celebrations and to honor our past heritage. For the more active members of the community, a Mountville 5K “walk or run” is being planned too! Additionally, the Committee is hoping to host a local home and business open-house, a lawn concert featuring Mountville area performers, a community choir concert, a variety show and historical presentations commemorating the town.
Celebrating Mountville’s 200th Birthday will need the financial support from the entire community. Any amount a business or organization is willing to contribute will be greatly appreciated in this effort to make Mountville’s 200th an exceptional year of events! Organizations that are not able to donate monetary gifts are certainly encouraged to volunteer to be part of the events by running booths, games or contests at the different events, contributing time to fund-raising activities, helping with town decorations or volunteering on any of the many Mountville 200th committees.
The Mountville 200th Bicentennial Executive Committee asks you to consider how you can contribute to the Mountville Bicentennial Celebrations as you plan your budgets for 2013, so that the Executive Committee can continue planning to make this an outstanding year of once in a lifetime events!
If you would like to help on a committee or in some other special way, there are many opportunities and we would encourage everyone not to miss being a part of Mountville’s history. A Mountville200 Volunteer Form can be found on this website to print out or you can pick one up at the Borough Office or the Mountville Library. Thank you in advance for helping to make Mountville a town worth celebrating!!
